How do I delete the "Background" layer in Photoshop?

How do I delete the "Background" layer in Photoshop? - 12/20/2008 I am new at using Photoshop and I needed a question answered about the layers pallet. The bottom layer that says "background" will not delete or move or anything. It will not unlock either. I don’t want this layer anymore. Is there a way I can get rid of it? |

Response - 12/20/2009 To delete the background layer in Photoshop you need to right click the background layer in layers pallet/panel. Select the "Layer from background" option. That will turn the background layer into a editable layer. Then you can delete it after that. |
